CS AMINA MOHAMMED SHOULD INTERVENE ON MOI UNIVERSITY ROT

Image
Moi University should be included in 1000 ways of dying young in Kenya. The university has totally neglected the students in its main campus and has even gone a notch higher in its campuses which Odera Akango is one of them. The campus is in Gem sub-county in Siaya. The students idle around due to no lectures since beginning of semester. Last semester it was the same thing leading to students partaking only 3 exams at the end.is this acceptable really when students are in school in full time basis and moreover pay accommodation fees and school fees in totality? The freshers who joined campus late last year with high expectations are now uncertain about their future academic life. The freshers of Odera Akango campus are now in main campus having hired a bus and together with their belongings travelled to Eldoret in Monday morning after a month long stay in school without lectures or way forward from the university. The first year students in the School of Education claims last semester...

Farmers woes sign of inept leadership in North Rift

Image
Since January farmers in North Rift, famously referred to as bread basket of Kenya have endured tumultuous period of anguish as a result of tedious maize delivery, scuttling efforts by cartels, delayed payments in national cereals and produce board (NCPB), inadequate fertilizers and so forth. The crisis was not expected and even our leaders were as clueless as farmers. So who are the cartels? Who are these enemies of agricultural production that even our leaders who we hold with great regard have no idea about? It defeats logic that when we as farmers we are seeking for help from apparently our leader’s t themselves can’t get the root cause of our miseries. So who exactly should we turn to for solace? Agriculture is of great importance not only to the North Rift region but to our country at large. Maize and wheat production are only viable in handful of counties in Kenya: uasin Gishu, Nandi, Trans-Nzoia and Narok. Due to soil and weather factors other regions can’t practice meaningf...

Image
The youthful senator Kiprotich Cherargei is a man under siege. A man who has pride himself as a change agent and a reformer having been largely voted to counter the rising cases of graft in Nandi County that greatly undermined development in the past 5 years. He calls himself “Mtetezi” for allegedly being a defender of his constituent’s rights. However, his recent utterances against the lifestyle audit hinted by President Uhuru Kenyatta to promote accountability have put him at odds with his Nandi County constituents. The senator has termed the audit as a witch-hunt and has viciously opposed the move. The residents expressed the outrage through Facebook in Facebook Group referred to as Rift Valley Caucus which mainly comprises North Rift residents. “Too bad for Nandi” a Facebook user Julius Chelule quipped. Others attribute his recent utterances to recklessness and carelessness with poor choice of words. “A leader should know when to shut or talk”. The senator’s comments caused nause...

The government made good of their threat of shutting down the media houses and ignoring to comply to the court order compelling the government to restore their transmission.  The media which Is the mirror and an informer of the larger society when it is cut to size for government own benefits really...

The opinions in social media and in mainstream media differed sharply while section of nakuru County leadership calling out on  their colleagues in uasin gishu claiming that's tribal animosity as there is a deliberate targeting of members of certain community in the ongoing crackdown.  The uasin...

Image
The past one week has witnessed firestorm as a result of a video that surfaced in social media showing uasin gishu County askaris infamous "kanjos" beating up hawkers and small scale traders senselessly in eldoret downtown market. The opinions from people all over the country and also in diaspora differed sharply as there are those who came to the defense of the county askaris actions while others grossly castigated their actions terming as infringing their rights. The debate got nasty when the section of Nakuru County leaders chided their uasin gishu counterparts of bias basing on tribal patterns. Whatever perspective we are looking at it. The traders deserve to be treated with decorum and utmost respect. Hawkers are fending for themselves and their families. They pay taxes to the same local government and enable them streer its leadership forward. Fighting them amounts to shooting oneself on the foot. Proper policies should be laid down in order to solve any stale...

'people's assembly' another flop just like 'okoa kenya' and election boycott

Image
People's assembly is a group of people who unite and expressed their dissatisfaction about issues especially governance in a country setting. The Nasa leader announced that he is championing formation of people's assembly in all 47 counties of kenya. This is a joke on its own as the only counties so far that can consume any garbage Mr Odinga says is just four nyanza counties namely siaya, homa Bay, Kisumu and Migori. This was evident as they boycotted elections and ensured that prevented the entire exercise from happening. It can't simply happen in more than 10 counties making it blunt not able to settle any political deadlock in the country. There are reasons that makes this people's assembly won't resolve anything in Kenya and hence won't salvage the sinking political ship of the Nasa leader Raila Odinga and his running mate Hon kalonzo musyoka. Raila blundered long ago and can't be saved by anything. He should know that people's assembly can be ...

Odinga supporters should quit jobs as well in goods boycott

Image
Raila Odinga the opposition heavyweight in kenya has just announced how he plans to sabotage of kenya economy by asking his supporters to boycott using certain goods and brands in a bid to destabilize the government. Odinga was defeated by incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta in the repeat poll held on 26th October although he withdrew weeks to the poll. Odinga though launched an onslaught against certain companies and brands without mentioning employees who are his ardent supporters but work for this companies because apparently they are all there working and fending for their families. Raila Odinga should have asked them to resign because asking his supporters to boycott goods means indirectly market for the products will decline hence mass layoff. But then Odinga is not genuine in his bid to boycott goods as his supporters hardly afford to earn a dollar per day hence doesn't have options to choose from. Odinga doesn't have the interests of his supporters he has impov...

Raphael Tuju is the hope of Luo Nyanza

Image
Raphael Tuju, a technocrat and a former member of parliament from Rarieda in siaya County formally nyanza province is the only hope so far that the luo community can look upto. Tuju served as a cabinet minister in the Narc government and his performance was exemplary. Tuju is the current Secretary General of the jubilee party, the largest party in Kenya. Tuju harbors progressive ideas that are helpful and sound to fire luo people to destiny. The current political leaders from the region have lacked progressive ideas and thus hold people at ransom. The crop of leadership now from the region are kleptomaniacs who does not mind about the welfare of the great people of the region. In his stint as the minister and the member of parliament, Tuju brought sanity to ailing sectors including health in his backyard. He charted the path the people and by extension leaders were not used to hence he was fought veeery hard hence his unceremoniously ousted. Tuju is the hope that not only the l...

Uncertainty as kenya prepares for repeat poll

Kenya is set to hold presidential elections on October 26th after the Supreme Court annulled results that declared incumbent Uhuru Kenyatta the winner and ordered fresh elections after 60 days. There is uncertainty however as the opposition leader Raila Odinga and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka have pulled out of the race and asked their supporters not to participate on the polls. Mr Odinga decried Independent and boundaries commission IEBC preparedness to hold the credible polls as he claims non of the issues he raised to be addressed have not been met by the poll body. The legitimacy of the winner of the polls we likely be called into question of opposition supporters indeed don’t take part. The international observer missions have lauded IEBC on what they term as the proper preparations and mechanism to deliver polls claims that the opposition refutes.
