Nandi Youthful senator Under fire for opposing audit

The youthful senator Kiprotich Cherargei is a man under siege. A man who has pride himself as a change agent and a reformer having been largely voted to counter the rising cases of graft in Nandi County that greatly undermined development in the past 5 years. He calls himself “Mtetezi” for allegedly being a defender of his constituent’s rights. However, his recent utterances against the lifestyle audit hinted by President Uhuru Kenyatta to promote accountability have put him at odds with his Nandi County constituents. The senator has termed the audit as a witch-hunt and has viciously opposed the move.
The residents expressed the outrage through Facebook in Facebook Group referred to as Rift Valley Caucus which mainly comprises North Rift residents. “Too bad for Nandi” a Facebook user Julius Chelule quipped. Others attribute his recent utterances to recklessness and carelessness with poor choice of words. “A leader should know when to shut or talk”. The senator’s comments caused nausea to some, “I heard him speak and I suffered nausea. If these are leaders we have, may the lord have mercy on us” lamented Johnstone Kotut who was blunt and critical on the comments attributed to the senator.
Apparently, senator should treat the latest developments in his backyard with seriousness it deserves. Corruption allegations have irked people all over the country and the people need change. Basing on the mood the vast majority need action to be done including locking up the corrupt leaders. Senator Cherargei on this regard thus talks on his behalf and not on behalf of the people who voted for him in Nandi as the senator. The senator incessant attacks on the imminent lifestyle audit dents his image further and dwindles his rising star at a faster pace than he imagines. “Huwa nikimwona Kwa TV na switch off immediately” posted Ramirez Xavi.
The law number 47 in the book 48 Laws of Power by Sir Robert Greene aptly puts “do not go past the mark you aimed for, in victory, learn how to stop”. The senator should know exactly when to stop. The mood is shifting and Kenyans from across the divide are sick and tired of politicians who are on rampage amassing wealth. He won to be the senator but that doesn’t guarantee him to be reckless in matters of national importance pertaining fight against graft.
